Bio: David Allan Bednar was born and raised in a part member family. His father eventually joined the church when Elder Bednar was in his late twenties. Elder Bednar served a full-time mission in Southern Germany and upon his return attended Brigham Young University where he got a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication and a Masters of Arts degree in organizational communication. He then went on to Purdue University where he received a doctorate degree in organizational behavior. He has served in several different educator capacities, the most well known of being the president of Ricks College/BYU-Idaho from 1997-2004 where he oversaw the transition from a two-year college to a four-year university.

Elder Bednar was sustained as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in October of 2004. Elder Bednar married his wife Susan Kae Robinson on March 20, 1975 in the Salt Lake Temple. The Bednars have 3 sons and reside in the Salt Lake area.
